On the telly again.

The run-up to last Sunday’s book launch was a lot of fun. I was lucky enough to go on MTV’s Men El Ekhir to talk a bit about the blog and the book. Here’s what happened.

Man in Beirut – congratulations on your appearances. But, for heaven’s sake: blog! You’ve had only 5 posts since August and only two of them actually include any text you wrote yourself. The rest is just self-marketing. And in the rest, some if it seems to be marred with the pompousness of a returned exile who thinks he’s better than those who stayed behind their whole lives. About Jeita, I agree with you.

However, concerning the football game, learn a little about the history before you criticize the pride. This is a big game by all means (from a 6-0 defeat to a 2-1 win) and making demeaning remarks about those who showed pride in their national team their team for beating the country that made it to the quarter finals of the world cup only a few years ago doesn’t make your criticisms constructive – just arrogant and elitist. Sure, Lebanon has many problems, and has been proud of many things that make no sense… this isn’t one of them – and yes, with that expected UAE win, we’ll be in the final stage of qualifiers for the first time in history. Whether Lebanon makes it into the World Cup or not, this is historic for the small country many of us love.

I don’t suppose you’d be willing to subtitle the video in English? Would be so nice to understand the interview; I’m a huge fan of your blog. (hint:

As a recent first-time visitor to Lebanon, I am loving this blog – disappointed to discover this interview was in Arabic though… has it been translated into English anywhere??
