Mashrou3 Leila is a seven-member Lebanese band that’s been getting bigger and bigger ever since they burst onto the local music scene in 2008. From what I understand, its a haphazard group who first came together at AUB after they answered an ad to join into informal jamming sessions at the university.
I like the band because they sound Lebanese. They don’t want to sound like anyone else, anywhere else. They sing in the colloquial dialect about sex, politics. They swear, which is refreshing. They sing about life and love and frustration. A trifecta most Beirutis can identify with. They’ve even thrown in a violin.
Check out the album coming out on December 19th. Check out the event their Facebook fanpage.
In the meantime, enjoy the video I found on YouTube.
